Position Title: Communications & Digital Media Coordinator

Reports to: Program Director

1.BACKGROUND

YOUNG & ALIVE INITIATIVE

We are a community of young professionals, passionate about advancing sexual reproductive health and rights within our societies and beyond. Since 2017, we have been operating as a non-profit feminist organization registered in Tanzania by the name ‘Young and Alive Initiative (YAI)’.  

Our vision is to see a society where young people have full access to all Sexual Reproductive Health information and Services and can exercise their rights. We are doing that by mobilizing adolescents and youth for solid and supportive Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights systems. 

Our approach is leveraging our own talents and skills such as innovation, art and ICT to advocate, build capacity and change behaviors to ensure youth’s access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights services and information.

Overall Purpose of the Position

The Communications & Media Coordinator will support the development and implementation of YAI’s communication and media strategy, including managing our digital platforms, internal and external communications, and developing engaging content to promote our work and impact.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s communications strategy.

• Develop and maintain internal and external communication channels.

• Draft and implement communications, branding, and public relations policies.

• Manage and grow all social media platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok).

• Regularly update the organization’s website and ensure optimization.

• Design and distribute monthly newsletters, press releases, and partner updates.

• Lead visual storytelling and documentation efforts through photos, videos, and blogs.

• Develop digital content (infographics, reels, reports, campaigns).

• Support production of annual reports and campaign materials.

• Ensure brand consistency across all communications.

Eligibility Criteria

• Youth aged between 18–35 years.

• Resident of Dar es Salaam.

• Background in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, ICT, or related fields.

• Demonstrated experience in social media management, website management  digital marketing, and media engagement.

• Knowledge of graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) and basic video editing.

• Experience with WordPress or website management is a strong advantage.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.

• Ability to work independently, show initiative, and collaborate in a diverse team.

• Positive energy, creativity, and commitment to youth and gender equality issues.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in Swahili and English.
