Position Title: Finance Officer

Reports to: CEO

Location: Dar es Salaam

1.BACKGROUND

YOUNG & ALIVE INITIATIVE

We are a community of young professionals, passionate about advancing sexual reproductive health and rights within our societies and beyond. Since 2017, we have been operating as a non-profit feminist organization registered in Tanzania by the name ‘Young and Alive Initiative (YAI)’. 

Our vision is to see a society where young people have full access to all Sexual Reproductive Health information and Services and can exercise their rights. We are doing that by mobilizing adolescents and youth for solid and supportive Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights systems. 

Our approach is leveraging our own talents and skills such as innovation, art and ICT to advocate, build capacity and change behaviors to ensure youth’s access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights services and information. 

Overall Purpose of the Position

The  Finance Officer will lead and oversee all administrative and financial aspects of the Young and Alive Initiative, ensuring efficient operational support and financial health. This role involves strategic planning, financial management, operational administration, and internal controls to support the organization’s goals and initiatives in promoting SRHR. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement financial strategies, plans, and budgets in alignment with the organization’s objectives.

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and controls, and manage organizational budgets, forecasts, and reports.

• Oversee administrative functions to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization scales.

•  Provide strategic advice and financial analysis to the CEO and board 

• members. 

• Support, Implement and maintain financial systems for effective financial management and internal controls.

• Coordinate with different departments to ensure the organization’s financial and administrative systems are supporting operational needs.

• Enhance administrative and operational systems, processes, and policies in support of the organization's mission.

• Monitor and manage expenditures within allotted budgets.

• Supporting the fundraising team for resource mobilization.

• Supervise and support staff, volunteers and other support personnel on financial planning and reporting. 

•  Assist the financial team in reporting , budgeting and compliances.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• A passionate for youth leadership, gender equality and sexual reproductive health issues

• At least 1 years of professional experience in financial management and administration, preferably in the non-profit sector.

• Proven experience in strategic planning and organization development.

• Strong understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles

• Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Language 

Strong verbal and written communication skills in Swahili and English. 

Other Additional Skills/Requirements 

 Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English and Swahili 

● High organizational ability and excellent time management skills. 

● Strong project management skills 

● Experience using participatory methodology in training and capacity 

development 

● Good presentation skills 

● Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

● Good basic computer and internet skills 

● Good report writing skills 

● Being a resident of Dar es Salaam.
